Travel Gift Ideas – Christmas Presents

Looking for travel gift ideas? Here are a few that make great Christmas presents or just good old travel gifts.

Travel Gift Ideas

Whether for work or fun, people that travel a lot are easy to buy for. There are simply a ton of gadgets and travel accessories that can satisfy your need for travel gift ideas.

1. Dreamsacks – Okay, here’s a nasty little secret about traveling. Hotels don’t always wash sheets and definitely don’t wash comforters. Yes, it creeps me out to think about it as well. Dreamsacks are designed to keep the creepy crawly bacteria, funguses and bugs off of you. Dreamsacks are essentially sleeping bags made from sheets, to wit, they are thin. Most even come with a built in pillow because if the sheets are sketchy, one doesn’t really want to even contemplate the pillows. Dreamsacks will set you back between $40 and $60.

2. Relief Bands – Relief bands are the latest, greatest way to stop motion sickness. If you’ve ever flown on Air Turbulence Airlines, you’ll know the immediate benefit of these bands. Worn like a watch, relief bands send a small electronic shock into the bottom of your wrist which counters the nausea impulse to your brain. No, it doesn’t hurt and it is a lot better than getting intimate with those popcorn bags in airline seat backs. Expect to pay between $60 and a couple hundred bucks depending on how fashionable you want to look while bouncing around in your seat. Good for boats and cars as well.

3. Japanese Paper Soap – Perhaps one of the greatest travel accessories ever made. For any traveler, bars of soap are a disaster. They never stay in their cases or wrapping resulting in soap suds and gunk everywhere. Japanese paper soap solves this problem nicely. The paper is, well, paper, but has built in soap. You simply get your hands wet and rub a piece of the paper between them. Instant suds! When done, toss the paper out. Pretty cool, eh? This incredible invention will set you back a whopping $10 for 50 sheets. Heck, I use them at home.

4. Nomad Travel Journals – A little self-promotion here. Nomad Travel Journals are compact writing journals that let travelers keep notes about their trips. Really great for creating a record of who was on the trip, things seen, people met, contact information such as email address, phone numbers and so on. As the years pass, you can read back through your travel journal to relive trips and laugh yourself silly over funny events you might otherwise forget. A tremendous gift for student travelers and backpackers. You can click the link at the bottom of this article to see the travel journals which cost $25 with case.

Shopping for the holidays can be stressful. If you’re buying for a traveler, any of the above gifts will be a hit.

Scrapbook Travel Ideas – Preserve Your Travel Memories

Scrapbooking the travel album is a great way to preserve your memories of your vacation. With just a little bit of planning, you can permanently record your trip highlights. There are many things you can use from your trip to embellish your scrapbook pages and make them extra special. Here are some ideas for making fabulous pages for your scrapbook travel album.

Make a page about your method of travel and keep the ticket stubs for use in your album. If you traveled by airplane, you could keep your boarding passes to use. Keep airline napkins, flyers, or other items that have the airlines name on them. If you travel by car, keep some of the road maps you used to reach your destination and any toll receipts or even gas receipts. Take a folder or extra bag with you just so you can store the items that you will be using in your scrapbook pages.

Buy postcards from everywhere you visit and include them in your scrapbook pages. I like to make my journal entries on the back of the post cards and then put them in a pocket on the actual scrapbook page. Sometimes the best pictures of a destination are on the postcards themselves. You can also send a postcard to yourself and then when you get back from your trip, include the postcard (with the postmark) in your album.

Keep items from restaurants and any shows you visit. I like to keep napkins that have the restaurant names on them, umbrellas or other special drink garnishments, or a even a menu (but always ask first). I even kept the bottle caps from an imported beer my husband and I shared at a special little place we visited during our honeymoon in Jamaica.

Use travel themed stickers and scrapbook kits to put together pages quickly and easily. These can help you to sketch out the basic pages even before your vacation and are real time savers. Just fill in with your photographs, dates, and journal entries.

You can use almost anything from your vacation to make great scrapbook embellishments including the paper luggage tags, hotel stationary, tour maps and stamped tickets, postcards, ribbons, or even dried flowers. Keep the items in page protectors or the pockets if you are not certain if they are acid free.

Making a scrapbook album of your trip is a wonderful way to preserve your vacation memories for years to come and share your scrapbook travel albums with family and friends.

A Dog Travel Crate For Comfy Travel Accommodations

A dog travel crate is a hard-sided carrier that allows you to comfortably take your dog along with you when you travel. Airlines have requirements that you must adhere to but you do have some flexibility in what you choose.

The term “crate” can refer to the smaller truly portable dog crates or the larger dog travel cages. And your choices will depend on the size of your dog and how he will be traveling in the plane.

If you have a smaller dog, you will want to choose an airline approved dog crate such as the ones marketed under the name of Petmate. These are made of hard plastic and have a carrying handle on the top. There are plenty of air holes for your dog to breathe and the wire ventilation gives your dog good visibility which will lessen the stress of traveling.

For large dogs, you can choose from either a large hard plastic kennel (such as the Petmate ones,) a wire cage, or even a wooden cage. Since these will be in the cargo bay, they need to be sturdy enough to protect your dog as well as give him a sense of security. They also need to be very well labeled on the top and you will need to include some type of water container.

Regardless of the size dog you have or the type of airline dog crate you end up getting, the comfort of your pet must be your first consideration. The crate should be large enough for your dog to be able to stand up and turn around. Airlines require this as well as does common sense and courtesy for your dog.

You’ll also need to provide some type of bedding on the floor of the crate. For smaller dogs that will be with you constantly, a soft towel or blanket are perfect. For larger dogs that will be traveling in the cargo bay and be away from you for several hours, a lining of newspaper is a better idea in case your dog should have an accident or his water bowl gets spilled.

Be sure to include a favorite toy or something that will help make your dog feel more secure while traveling. Your dog’s stress level will likely be elevated due to unfamiliar sights and sounds so anything you can do to help ease the stress will be greatly appreciated by your dog.
